BIOGRAPHY
"I think a teacher should be your musical guide and your personal guide."
Itzhack Perlman – (One of the world's greatest violinists!)
During the past ten years I have developed a gentle and encouraging teaching style. I am a young woman whose quiet voice and cheerful spirit helps to calm and inspire rather then intimidate and pressure. I use a teaching method personally developed. Combining both the Suzuki and traditional method, I train my student's musical ear to play back on their violin any tune they hear, while also insuring that they have a solid understanding of note reading and music theory. Correct posture and technique are very important to me and are integrated into every lesson.
What is learned in each lesson is more important than just music. Self confidence, discipline, perseverance and patience are qualities also gained. Whether or not my students choose to further pursue the violin in their future, their time spent studying with me will be profitable.
Over all I want my students to have a positive, fun, experience that will inspire them with the beauty of music and give them a proficiency on the violin with which they may express themselves with ease.
EDUCATION
I have attended Suzuki teacher training in Ithaca, New York, Gardener, Maine and studied music theory at Lancaster Bible College of Pennsylvania. I have taught at the music studios of Northern Kingdom music store in Rockport, Maine, Life Song Christian book and music store in Quarryville, Pennsylvania and the Music School of Laurel, Maryland while also teaching private and group lessons from my home. I was concert mistress and assistant coach for the Odeon string orchestra of Camden, Maine as well as teacher and conductor for the Appleton Youth string ensemble. I have worked as a recording artist for Narrow Way recording studios and play the violin professionally for weddings and special occasions. I play full time for the Presbyterian Church of Pasadena.
I welcome beginner to intermediate students, ages three to seventy-three. For more information and to schedule an introductory lesson call violin teacher, Sophia Englar at (410) 317-7637
