BIOGRAPHY
Lisa Hogan is a singer, songwriter and composer. Her first independent CD, “The Other Way,” was released in 2001 to exemplary reviews. Written, produced and performed by Lisa, the disc was named in the Top Ten Best Indies for 2001, by the Michael Anthony Show describing her work as “a fabulous effort and recommended listening on a sunny day.”
Amazon.com describes her as a “beautiful, intriguing, and evocative artist who follows a different muse and continuously strives to look the other way”. Lisa is also featured on two other independent CD’s, “The East Side of Fascination,” released in 2002 featuring top singer/songwriters in the New York City area, and “The Best of Qopel Records”. She has performed in major New York City venues, and opened for Tom Tom Club, Lisa Loeb, and Rusted Root, among others. She was selected to be a performing member of “Indiegrrl, “the most innovative web site for women musician’s,” and featured on Time Warner Cable’s GNYCTV live with other notable NYC Singer and Songwriters.
She has won awards for songwriting from ASCAP, and been a featured performer for The Songwriter’s Guild, Women-In-Music, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS), Peek-a-boo Festival of New Music and Theatre, and the New York City Music Festival. Her material has been licensed for Nickolodian. As a vocalist, Lisa has worked extensively as a jazz singer, performing in New York City and the Tri-State area. She has performed in Doug Katsaro’s Orphan Train at the Theatre At St Peter’s. She has sung at Lincoln Center Merkin Hall, and performed with the Marin Opera Company in Marin County, California. She has studied voicewith David Sabella-Mills, and Jeffrey Gall of the New York City Metropolitan opera, and at the Manhattan School of Music, and Harlem School of the Arts. In 2006 Lisa received an M.A. in Composition at the Aaron Copland School of Music. She has studied composition with Bruce Saylor, Robert Aldridge and Menachem Zur. The Second Instrumental Unit and, the International Contemporary Ensemble have performed her work. The New England Conservatory of Music selected her composition for piano for their Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice in 2003. She has written pieces for solo piano, voice, chamber and Pierott ensemble.
She was the co-president of the Queens College Graduate Music Association. As a Voice Teacher and Musical Director, Lisa teaches privately in New York City, and as an associate for David Sabella-Mills and Performer’s Career Center in New York City. She is an Adjunct Professor at the City University of New York and Montclair State University, in Montclair, New Jersey. She is currently the musical director for “Cabaret” being staged at the City University of New York. She has musically directed, produced and played piano for numerous productions for her students, and teaches piano skills, sight singing and musicianship.
She continues to support and assist other songwriters in arranging and producing new music. She is an active member of the New York Singing Teacher’s Association (NYSTA) and serves on the Board of Directors as Registrar. Through NYSTA Lisa has pursued studies in vocal pedagogy including developmental repertoire, anatomy and physiology, and acoustics.
