BIOGRAPHY
Karen Jennings is a well known and highly regarded Los Angeles singing teacher and voice therapist who has been teaching singing for 20 years. Her area of expertise is non-classical singing techniques, breath control training, development of chestmix, and remediation of vocal problems. Her clients include both beginning, aspiring singer-songwriters and nationally known recording artists. In addition to teaching singing, Karen also provides voice therapy/vocal rehabilitation to singers, actors and other professional voice users both privately in her studio and at the Cedars Sinai Voice Clinic in Los Angeles. Karen is also on faculty at California State University, Northridge in the Speech Pathology department where she teaches coursework in voice disorders and supervises student clinicians in the Northridge Voice Clinic.
Karen began singing in coffee houses at age 13. She has over 26 years of performance experience in the jazz, pop, and folk genres. Her extensive experiences as a performer, singing teacher, voice therapist, and voice researcher enable her to bring a wealth of knowledge to her students. She understands the demands of live performance, is expert at training/developing the vocal instrument, and is capable of solving and remediating vocal problems. But perhaps most importantly, she loves teaching, helping others achieve their singing goals, healing the damaged singing voice, and developing the healthy voice to its maximum potential!
EDUCATION
Degree in Vocal Performance from Berklee College of Music; Certified instructor of the Pavone Method; M.A. Speech Pathology w/ a specialty in remediation of performance voice problems such as nodules, vocal fatigue, etc.; Ph.D. in Voice Science w/ a specialty in singing voice research, such as the physiology and mechanics of singing, register control, and pitch control.
