I've been a teacher for 29 years and personally taught thousands of students.
I'll help you be a better player whether you're a beginner or someone seeking skills in advanced improvisation.

EDUCATION
1988 formal private instruction with Master Guitarist Steve Sage 3 years.
1989 Began eight semesters of The Electric Pop Guitar Class at D.V.C. Member of Guitarkestra, a nine piece electric guitar orchestra. Attended clinics with top professional artists.
1992 - 1996 Studied privately with Jazz Great Warren Nunes - Guitarist, Author, Teacher.
Shelby lead bands The Tone Fleas, The Pleasers, String Cheese, Emerald City, Acme Blues Band, Three Of A Kind and Out Of The Blue. Also toured with The Lisa Michaels Project, LaDeanna! and Lori Davidson And The Intruders.
October 2004 to present personal student of W. A. Mathieu, one of the most renowned composers and authors living today.
Late 2006 opened 851 Music Studio, the most innovative place to learn music in the North Bay Area. Grand opening of new location at 310 Military West November 1, 2008.
J. Shelby is a member of the National Association of Music Teachers, Nation Association for Music Education, and the Guitar Foundation of America.
