BIOGRAPHY
Soprano Claudia Friedlander has performed in opera and recital throughout the eastern United States and Canada, most recently appearing in the title role in Tosca with Opera Company of Brooklyn. Previous performances include Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly, the Frau in Erwartung, Lady Billows in Albert Herring, and Giorgetta in Il tabarro. Dr. Friedlander has participated in summer festivals at Music Academy of the West and Tanglewood. An enthusiastic interpreter of contemporary music, she created the role of Gabrielle Martin in Paul Mathews’ opera Chatter & Static and has been featured in concerts of the Consortium of Vermont Composers. She is the winner of an Artist Award in Singing from The Maryland State Arts Council.
Dr. Friedlander holds a doctorate from McGill University as well as Master of Music degrees in both Voice and Clarinet from Peabody Conservatory. She has served on the voice faculties of The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, The Catholic University of America, and the Preparatory Division of The Peabody Conservatory of Music. She designed the vocal prime curriculum at The Carver Center for Arts and Technology, a public magnet arts high school in Towson, Maryland. Dr. Friedlander now maintains a busy private studio in New York City. A long-time member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, she is a board member of the NATS New York City Chapter and chairs the local Student Vocal Auditions.
